“Vittorio.. We consider him Palestinian. He was a martyr and he died fighting for free Palestine,” were the words spoken at Retaj Women’s Centre in Asira al-Qibliya, south of Nablus, in commemoration of the Italian human rights activist and journalist Vittorio Arrigoni who was murdered three years ago, on 15 April 2011, in Gaza.
In memory of Vittorio, the children of Asira sang Bella Ciao, the Italian resistance song which Vik had been teaching kids in Gaza. They then planted an olive tree for Vittorio. May he rest in peace and may his work be continued by others, until Palestine is free.
