The Illegal settlement of Revava is located on land illegally confiscated from

the Palestinian Villages of Hares and Deir Istyia

Expansion of Revava Settlement

On 25.04.11 IWPS volunteers walked the main road between the villages of Deir Istiya and Hares (Salfit district) to document the expansion of Revava settlement. Revava is built on the land belonging to the villages of Deir Istiya and Hares. All settlement building is illegal under the internationally recognized Article 49, paragraph 6 of the Fourth Geneva Convention which explicitly stipulates “the occupying power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies”. Article 46 of the Hague Convention prohibits the confiscation of private property in occupied territory. The confiscation of land by the Israeli government for settlement construction is in violation of this article.

Revava Expansion to the south

On 23.04.11 IWPS volunteers met an elderly couple from the village of Deir Istiya who were informed one month ago that 680 dunums of their land near Revava will be confiscated, signaling further expansion of the settlement. They informed IWPS volunteers that raw sewage from Reveva settlement is polluting their land. They said that 2 months ago the Israeli army had destroyed 4 walls they had built on their land to protect their crops from animals. IWPS will continue to monitor and document the expansion of Revava settlement.
