How to import olive oil from Palestine into your country

  1. Coordinating person

... is interested in importing olive oil from Palestine and finds a Fair Trade Company or another organization in his country who agrees to import the oil and/or other farmers products to a fair price. Contacts IWPS, who helps with facilitation if needed.
  2. Fair Trade Company

... wants to import olive oil; gets in touch with PARC; receives offer from PARC; sends signed agreement to PARC and transfers 50% of the money to the PARC bank account
  3. Marketing

... does at the moment PARC (Palestinian Agriculture Relief Committee), but maybe soon also the Peasants Union. PARC starts collecting oil from Peasants & Farmers Union after they received the signed agreement and 50% of the costs. PARC organizes collecting, filling, labeling (if bottles and not barrels), transport and shipping to the nearest harbor of your country. At the harbor the job of PARC is done
  4. Harbor

... place of handing over oil and responsibility 55.
  5. Fair trade company

... the Fair trade company organizes the transport from the harbor to the country and delivers the oil to Fair trade shops and other institutions
  6. Consumer

... enjoys the valueable nature product and is equipped with background information about farmers life under Israeli military occupation

Collection of oil

If International Women's Peace Service IWPS is involved in the ex- and importing, the oil will be collected from different farmers of the Salfit district and not only from one Union. At the time this is the Peasants Union and the Farmers Union of the district Salfit (usually PARC only collects oil from Farmers Union). IWPS works closely with the farmers in this district. IWPS is also in constant touch with the Marketing department of PARC and in some cases with the Fair Trade Company to support olive oil export. IWPS provides background information about the difficulties farmers face under Israeli military occupation
  • Peasants Union

collect 50% oil from farmers who's oil has the requested criteria (e.g. extra virgin), pays a fair prize and deliver it to PARC
  • Farmers Union

collect 50% oil from farmers who's oil has the requested criteria (e.g. extra virgin), pays a fair prize and deliver it to PARC

MARKETING:

At the moment the only Palestinian organization who markets farmers products is the Palestinian Agriculture Relief Committee PARC, but maybe soon also the Peasants Union will do the step towards marketing goods into other countries or other farmers initiatives.

Tip:

Before you contact Fair Trade Organizations in your country get in touch with Saleem Abu Ghazaleh in order to check if they have already a relationship with organizations in your country and IWPS, to see if there are people in your country already working on olive oil import.

If not, do a search on the internet or go to Fair Trade shops to ask if they would be interested in selling olive oil and from which companies they get their products. Even if they are negative concerning the oil, do not loose heart.
