Army Steps Up Violence Against Deir Istiya Villagers
Bjork Vilhelmsdottir reporting form Deir Istiya:
The Israeli military has taken to the next level threats against the three families living on the outskirts of Deir Istyia village in the Salfit region of the West Bank.
At the end of November the IWPS told the story of the three families who where threatened and harassed daily by the Israeli army. See: http://iwps.info/…/iof-invade-homes-threaten-families-with…/
Now the threats have taken an even more sinister turn. Last week occupation soldiers first cut the electrity ground cable connecting one of the houses to the powergrid and couple of days later the powerline was cut and one of the families was left without electricity for seven hours.
The family waited for an hour and a half before they plucked the currage to venture out to see what happened and why they lost power. As soon as they stepped outside, the soldiers started firing teargas at them and their house, shouting that they should leave the area. The Israeli soldiers also threw stones at the houses.
ISM and IWPS vounteers visited the families twice last week. Both parents and children were deeply traumatized by repeated attacks. We winessed the intended effect of the tactic used widely by the Israeli millitary to terrorize vulnerable families and and drive them out of their homes and ancestral land in order to take it over.
A family which used to live there left the area last year, due to harasment and intimodation and they are now staying inside the village of Deir Istyia.
The occuation army is trying to drive the three remaining families form their homes by making their lives there unbearable.
